Biographical Information I am a retired United Methodist clergy. In 39-years of active ministry I developed a deep love of fly fishing. In order to save money several years ago, I decided to build a state of the art “name brand” (Sage) rod because I could not afford to buy one “off the rack.”
Rod building was in my blood and soon, I decided to build rods as gifts for others. Because Julie, my wife, expressed an interest in fly fishing I built her a 6’6” 2-wt. For Christmas one year I built her a 9’ 5-wt and about 3-months later I built her an “Easter” rod and wove “GRANDMA JULIE” on the rod.
I built a 6’6” 2-wt. as a retirement gift for my father-in-law to fish the streams in the Black Hills of Wyoming and South Dakota. Following a fishing trip to the Big Horn River in Montana, my brother-in-law wanted me to build an 8’6” 5-wt. It wasn’t too long until I ran out of relatives to supply with rods so I built one for myself – a 6’6” 2-wt for fishing small streams in the Medicine Bow National Forest.

Before I knew it, I began to receive orders from people wanting particular rods for their favorite type of fishing – some with decorations such as weavings, others with feather inlays, and one request for a “stealth” rod.
Julie is very happy I no longer have to build her a Valentine’s rod, a St. Patrick’s rod, a Fourth of July rod, a ….
